Staying out of the sun. Before and after your treatment, it’s important to avoid sun exposure. We also highly recommend using sunscreen every single time you’re in the sun – it’s one important step you can take to keep your skin in good condition and avoid the signs of aging.
Lighten your skin. Treatments work better on lighter skin and darker hair. To accomplish this, we may ask you to use a skin bleaching cream in the area you wish to have treated. We definitely will request that you stop using any sunless tanning creams and tanning beds prior to treatment.
Avoid other hair removal. It might be hard not to pluck or wax or even use electrolysis before your appointment, but your treatment will work best if you do none of these things for at least four weeks prior. This gives us a good hair and follicle to work with and we get great results when our clients are diligent.
Shaving your treatment area. Other hair removal methods are discouraged but the day before your treatment you will be asked to trim and/or shave the intended area. This removes hair above the skin’s surface that could be burned by lasers while leaving the hair intact below the skin for the best results.
The procedure typically requires two to six treatments, but again, it all depends on the thickness of your hair, how much hair you have in the area, and your skin and hair color. It can also be dependent on the area you’re having treated; some places grow hair more quickly than others.
We will give you specialized goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam during treatment. The area being targeted may need additional shaving in our facility to prevent burning of hair outside of the skin. We might also apply a topical anesthetic to reduce discomfort in sensitive areas.

After you’ve had the procedure, you’ll notice some redness and swelling. Typically, this just lasts for a few hours, but it might last longer if you have sensitive skin. If you’re feeling discomfort, we recommend applying ice to the treated area. In the rare case of a skin reaction, a steroid cream may be used to calm the skin and reduce inflammation.
We recommend staying out of the sun and avoiding tanning beds or lights for several weeks after your treatment or between scheduled treatments. Remember, a sunscreen is always recommended to keep your skin healthy and youthful looking.It’s important to note that your hair will not immediately fall out, your body still has to go through the stages of hair growth until the affected hair naturally falls out. Some hairs will drop the next day, but others may take days or even weeks to go through their cycle.
